Playing Defiance part 1

The multi-media, multi-platform massive shooter called Defiance, and being made by Trion, is what we got to play today at Gamescom. That is no small feat, because only a handful of gamers have managed to do so since the game was announced. Defiance is a game that will be tied in with a TV show of the same name starting on SyFy in April 2013. You will have co-op missions as well as PvP scenarios to explore with thousands of players on the same server and in your vicinity. We had some time with the game and it is a very good shooter from what we’ve seen. We played in this industrial harbor PvP scenario with each of the four currently available classes and the game plays very nicely. The gameplay was natural and I quickly grasped the basic concepts managing to even so some of my own kills. There are alien weapons and advanced technologies (stealth and speed dash for example) alongside more traditional shotguns, snipers and grenades. I quickly found myself in a situation where I used each of the available weapons finishing a particularly nice attack with a melee attack with my rifle. We will try and release video of the gameplay within the next few hours and we have interviews with one of the game designers and the game’s producer for you to watch in the upcoming day so stay tuned to our Defiance coverage from Gamescom.
